CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Nov. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the second consecutive year, the Angiogenesis Foundation (www.angio.org) has received the highest rating of four out of four possible stars from Charity Navigator, the prominent independent evaluator of charities. Thousands of organizations are assessed but less than a quarter achieve four stars.
The Angiogenesis Foundation is re-conceptualizing a global approach to health by helping the body maintain its normal balance of angiogenesis, the process used by the body to grow new blood vessels. By halting excessive blood vessels, it is possible to starve cancer by cutting off its blood supply, as well as prevent vision loss in diabetes and age-related macular degeneration. By growing new blood vessels, it is possible to heal wounds and save limbs. Controlling angiogenesis can conquer more than 70 diseases, according to the Foundation.
“This 4-star rating demonstrates the Foundation’s commitment not only to its mission, but also to good governance, sound fiscal management, transparency, and accountability,” commented Dr. William Li, President and Medical Director of the Angiogenesis Foundation.
Charity Navigator objectively evaluates thousands of nonprofits to assess their programs’ sustainability, their efficiency in using donor support, and their commitment to best practices. These unbiased ratings can help donors make informed decisions about charitable giving.
“Having served on the Angiogenesis Foundation’s Board of Directors since its inception in 1994, I can say we are all honored to receive Charity Navigator’s highest rating. This is a success not only for the Foundation, but also for the 50 million people who have been impacted by our work,” commented Christopher J. Bonar, VMD, Chairman of the Board.
The Angiogenesis Foundation is a member of the Clinton Global Initiative and leads a series of programs that help people live healthier lives using diet and lifestyle. Through international summits, high-level conferences, and multimedia campaigns, the Foundation has built a community of 65,000 members and reached over 300,000 doctors in 150 countries as well as 5 million viewers through digital media. The Foundation’s advocacy and outreach efforts have touched millions more worldwide.
