Soy Isoflavones Do Not Disrupt Infant Development

Preliminary research in the US finds that soy isoflavones, found in soy infant formula, do not disrupt infant development, despite concerns from some scientists that the isoflavones could act like female hormones in infants.Soy isoflavones are thought to act similarly to the female hormone oestrogen, prompting researchers at the Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center (ACNC) in the US to embark on a six-year study to investigate the effects of soy-based infant formula compared with formulas made from human breast milk or cow’s milk.
