Smith & Nephew Endoscopy Release: Customized Surgical Kits Package Most Frequently Used Devices For Medical Center Efficiency, Convenience

ANDOVER, Mass., Aug. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Smith & Nephew’s Endoscopy division today announced the launch of its new DYONICS(R) ARTHROPAK(TM) Customized Procedure Kits, which contain medical devices used in the most common arthroscopic procedures.

The kits are designed to increase operational efficiencies and lower overall costs by helping to reduce the amount of time facility staff spend ordering and pulling supplies, such as cannulae, sterile tubing and arthroscopic resection blades for each procedure. Instead, the surgery center staff simply designates which supplies and devices the kits should contain.

“There are devices we use in almost every procedure,” said Dr. Joseph Abate of Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. “With the DYONICS ARTHROPAK kit, you open the box and get everything the surgeon will want to use. For the facility, ARTHROPAK kits offer increased efficiency and reduced costs.”

The cost savings can be significant at ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) where surgeons perform multiple procedures each day.

“We are saving 3 to 5 minutes per procedure, which may not seem like a lot of time,” said Julie Beauchamp, who monitors materials management at Northeast Surgical Care, a multi-specialty surgery center in Newington, N.H. “But in a busy surgery center like ours, when we’re paying staff to assemble all the devices needed for procedures, that saved time translates into saved operating expense.”

Each kit has its own SKU -- or product identifier -- so when the time comes to replenish supplies, the purchasing staff can easily order a new kit instead of individual devices. They can also have a standing order to replenish supplies.

“Smith & Nephew Endoscopy offers a complete range of devices surgeons need for arthroscopic procedures,” said Jerry Goodman, vice president and general manager of Resection. “With the DYONICS ARTHROPAK Customized Procedure Kit, we’ve made it easier for medical facilities to obtain everything they need for their patients, in addition to improving efficiency and containing costs, something that is a concern throughout the medical marketplace.”
