Danish biopharma Novo Nordisk will hire 90 people at its new manufacturing plant in New Hampshire, the company said Wednesday.

The plant, located in West Lebanon, was formerly owned by Olympus Biotech. It was built in 1989, expanded in 2006 and had been used for primarily cell manufacturing. Novo Nordisk bought it in August of this year and said at the time some of the plant’s former employees had been offered jobs.

Now the company is ready to add to its employee roster at the site, said executives. The new facility will produce products for the treatment of hemophilia, including recombinant factor VIII, N8-GP for those with hemophilia A.

“We’re pleased to be bringing this site back to life, and make it a part of Novo Nordisk‘s growing network of manufacturing sites,” said Steen Weber Jensen, corporate vice president of Novo Nordisk, in a statement. “Our long-standing commitment to patients and families affected by hemophilia means we have to continuously improve how we supply our medicines, and this new site will give us new, vital capacity.”

Headquartered in Denmark, Novo Nordisk employs approximately 40,000 employees in 75 countries. It said it is happy to add New Hampshire to that list.

Novo Nordisk is making a long-term investment in the Upper Valley, and we’re glad that New Hampshire is a part of the company’s manufacturing division,” said Peter Gariepy, vice president and site manager for the West Lebanon plant. “The community can look to Novo Nordisk to be a cornerstone for the foreseeable future.”
