October 13, 2008 -- An injectable TCM product based on the Ciwujia herb has been withdrawn from the market after it caused three deaths. In addition to the three deaths, three other cases of serious adverse effects were also reported. The drug is administered to treat thrombosis and heart disease. The SFDA reacted by pulling two batches of the drug from the shelves. The drug, which is manufactured by Wandashan Pharmaceutical, is one of about ten Ciwusia products manufactured by the company.
