Hansen Medical Highlights Remote Navigation Capabilities and Clinical Value at Heart Rhythm 2010

DENVER, CO--(Marketwire - May 11, 2010) - Booth # 1725 -- Hansen Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ: HNSN) will showcase advancements to its Sensei® X Robotic Catheter System and highlight key clinical benefits of remote navigation for arrhythmia procedures at Heart Rhythm 2010, the Heart Rhythm Society’s 31st Annual Scientific Sessions. The company will also co-sponsor an educational symposium with GE Healthcare featuring world-renowned electrophysiologists.

The GE Healthcare and Hansen Medical co-sponsored symposium will take place on Thursday, May 13 from 6:30 - 9:30 pm at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel in the Plaza Ballroom. Included among the key presenters is Joseph Gallinghouse, M.D., electrophysiologist, of the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute at St. David’s Medical Center, who will discuss his experience with robotic navigation and Atrial Fibrillation (AF) ablation.

“We are very pleased to be co-sponsoring this educational symposium with GE Healthcare at Heart Rhythm 2010,” said Robert Mittendorff, M.D., vice president of marketing and business development for Hansen Medical. “This event will offer in-depth, interactive discussions with a focus on innovative therapeutic approaches for the management of complex arrhythmias. Hansen Medical’s flexible robotic remote navigation system offers electrophysiologists an enhanced solution and clinical value for arrhythmia procedures.”

In addition, Philips Healthcare and GE Healthcare will feature interactive kiosks in their booths demonstrating Hansen Medical’s IntelliSense® Fine Force Technology and its tactile vibration feature, which provides immediate feedback on proximal force measurements. Philips and GE will also highlight advanced features of the company’s CoHesion™ 3D Visualization Module in the kiosks, and Philips will showcase the integrated product solution co-developed with Hansen Medical to advance the treatment of arrhythmias.

Earlier this month, Hansen Medical signed a joint development and cooperation agreement with Siemens Healthcare to co-develop products designed to help simplify complex cardiac procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. This most recent agreement once again highlights Hansen Medical’s successful collaboration with a broad range of leading imaging companies. The company currently has agreements with Siemens, Philips, GE and St. Jude Medical.

Hansen Medical will be featured in multiple clinical presentations during Heart Rhythm 2010, and it will also host a hands-on challenge for all attendees in its booth #1725. Clinicians will be asked to participate in a “manual” versus “manual with fluoroscopy” catheter first-contact force comparison. The challenge is designed to highlight the differences in manual catheter contact with and without fluoroscopy imaging.

The Sensei X system is the next generation flexible robotic platform that integrates advanced levels of 3D catheter control with 3D visualization, providing enhanced accuracy and stability to physicians during complex cardiac arrhythmia procedures. The Sensei X platform supports the Artisan Extend™ control catheter, which increases the reachability and navigation properties of the Artisan™ catheter by offering more than 20 percent improvement in both bend and reach. In addition, the Artisan Extend catheter offers improvements in setup and workflow, and is designed to improve usability and reduce procedure time.

The Sensei X platform also supports the CoHesion 3D Visualization Module, which integrates the 3D motion control of the Sensei X system with the 3D visualization of the St. Jude Medical EnSite™ system. Two features of the Sensei X system designed to improve procedural planning and workflow include Workspace Visualization, an enhancement that allows physicians to see the catheter’s reach on a 3D map prior to navigation, and EndoView, a feature that allows physicians to quickly change the orientation to a standard endoscopic view.

About Hansen Medical, Inc.

Hansen Medical, Inc., based in Mountain View, Calif., develops products and technology using robotics for the accurate positioning, manipulation and control of catheters and catheter-based technologies. Its first product, the Sensei® Robotic Catheter system, is a robotic navigation system that enables clinicians to place mapping catheters in hard-to-reach anatomical locations within the heart easily, accurately and with stability during complex cardiac arrhythmia procedures. The Sensei system is compatible with fluoroscopy, ultrasound, 3D surface map and patient electrocardiogram data and was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May 2007 for manipulation and control of certain mapping catheters in Electrophysiology (EP) procedures. The safety and effectiveness of the Sensei system for use with cardiac ablation catheters in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation (AF), have not been established. In the European Union, the Sensei system is cleared for use during EP procedures, such as guiding catheters in the treatment of AF. Additional information can be found at www.hansenmedical.com.
