Frost & Sullivan Awards Imaging Dynamics Company With 2006 Medical Imaging Product Value Of The Year

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Frost & Sullivan has presented Imaging Dynamics Company (IDC) with the 2006 Medical Imaging Product Value of the Year Award for its Xplorer 1600 Digital Radiography (DR) system. Introduced in 2004, the Xplorer 1600 is quickly establishing itself as the most affordable DR system in the market and is increasingly poised to compete against high-end computed radiography (CR) systems.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to the company that has provided customers with the solution and/or service with the highest ratio of value to cost. The recipient should have empowered customers with a product that promises high quality, while also remaining extremely price competitive.

The single charge-coupled device (CCD) array of the Xplorer 1600 has an image preview area of 17" x 17" -- the largest field of view for any CCD-based detector -- and is comparable to tiled-array detectors of other flat panel systems that use as many as four panel arrays to span the same area. Its 14-bit capture depth and 4.6 lp/mm spatial resolution further provide the industry highest image resolution and incorporates the latest software advances including automatic image stitching, allowing various images to be combined into a single high-resolution image.

“The Xplorer 1600, at under $218,000 (including the patient table), is priced lower than any other flat-panel or CCD-based DR system currently in the market,” notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Subha B. Basu. “This price makes the Xplorer 1600 competitive with higher-end multi-plate CR systems, thus reflecting the true value of the system.”

Going further, the Xplorer 1600 also features a high degree of automation and motorization. For example, using a hand-held remote control, pre-set detector positions can be chosen from a list of standard procedure types. Unlike amorphous-element flat panel detectors, the CCD detector array is modular, meaning that the detector can easily be repaired or replaced under IDC’s three-year warranty. Also, the active imaging area extends to the edge of the detector array, minimizing “dead space” and simplifying patient positioning.

The Xplorer 1600 is ideal for high throughput and given the price point, the mid- to low-volume clinical settings, such as private-practice orthopedics, diagnostic imaging centers and outpatient clinics, which image a minimum of 30 patients per day. As the mainstay in the IDC product line, the Xplorer 1600 is expected to gain a significant position in the DR installed base, since it is a product that combines reliable performance and exquisite image resolution with an extremely favorable cost profile.

“Founded in 1995, IDC has emerged as one of the most innovative companies in the Digital Radiography industry and its mission is to combine functionality and affordability in its extensive product line of DR systems,” says Basu. “Partially due to strategic decisions to enter niche clinical specialties, IDC recorded an all-time high in contract orders in 2005, thereby establishing itself as a major market participant in the digital X-ray market.”

IDC is imbued with a culture that thrives on achieving goals by meeting clients’ needs for performance and value. Moreover, the company continuously strives to be at the forefront of product innovation by placing equal weight on both patient and clinician requirements. Frost & Sullivan is proud to present the 2006 Product Value of the Year Award to IDC.
