Doctors Get Fewer Free Lunches From Drug Firms In MA Compared To The Rest Of The Country

Massachusetts doctors get a much smaller percentage of drug-company payments in the form of meals or travel reimbursements when compared to their peers in most other states. Granted, that distinction only applies to the last five months of 2013, the time period covered by the data released last week by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. That information represents the first nationwide attempt to publicly document what individual doctors and hospitals receive from companies that make healthcare products. The disclosure, mandated under the Affordable Care Act, is the first time such data has been available on a nationwide scale.
