TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 26, 2009) - One defends his goal against all comers, another glides across the ice performing double axels and triple salchows, and a third hammers through the snow in cross country skiing competitions - they all share a common goal - Olympic gold. All three are being helped along by a company which has had a long association with elite sports and more recently the 2010 Winter Games. CV Technologies - the maker of COLD-FX and the newest sponsor of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games - today announced sponsorship agreements with Paralympic gold medalist Paul Rosen - the world's top ice sledge hockey goalie and Olympic gold medalist cross country skier Chandra Crawford as well as with five-time Canadian women's champion figure skater Joannie Rochette.
Twenty-three year old Joannie comes from a Quebec town of 700 and raising sponsorship funds has not been easy. She says "We fill out sponsorship forms all the time and get nothing. It's not easy to get sponsors when you're in amateur sports and I'm happy to have COLD-FX support me." The Company's offer of support came to her as a surprise and after she had used COLD-FX on a barnstorming tour of Europe. She says, "The whole trip, I took the stuff and never got sick. I am so happy to be working with COLD-FX. It is never a good time to get sick and if I can do something to prevent that from happening, I will."
"A lot of our athletes make significant personal and financial sacrifices to pursue their sport. For example, Joannie left home when she was 13 to live with another family so she could be closer to better coaching," says Dr. Jacqueline Shan, co-discoverer of COLD-FX. Shan, who is president and Chief Scientific Officer adds, "We are proud our product has helped to keep world-class athletes healthy and in peak shape so they can always give 100 per cent in training and competition. These athletes deserve our help and we're happy we can help out. It's part of our tradition."
Forty-nine-year-old Toronto native Paul Rosen and his teammates took home gold for Canada at the 2006 Torino Paralympic Winter Games, the 2008 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championships in the U.S. and the 2009 Hockey Canada Cup in Vancouver earlier this month.
He says, "I am thrilled to be working with COLD-FX. On top of my hockey career and with a busy family, I just can't afford to be down with a cold or flu. I take COLD-FX daily and all year-round to help keep me healthy; it's one less thing I have to worry about."
Olympic gold medalist in cross-country skiing Chandra Crawford launched Fast and Female - a non-profit program designed to 'empower young women through sports' four years ago. It's intent on inspiring young female athletes between the ages of 9 and 19 to lead healthy and active lives by using sports to build confidence and develop leadership skills.
The twenty-five-year old says, "Leading an empowering life begins with having good health. COLD-FX has certainly helped me to stay healthy throughout the long season"
COLD-FX is also a sponsor of the Fast and Female's 2009 Winter Ski Festival scheduled for March 28 at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. It will be a special day for 150 participants who will get a whole range of tips on how to win.

Joannie began skating at the age of 6 and has become the five-time women's champion of Canadian figure skating. All eyes in her Quebec hometown of Ile Dupas will be on her this week as she competes in the World Figure Skating Championships in Los Angeles. She will also be starring in Stars on Ice which begins its Canadian tour in Halifax on April 23.
About Paul Rosen:
Paul suffered a leg injury during a hockey game at the age of 15, which resulted in an infection, countless surgeries and subsequent amputation at the age of 39. Paul became an ice sledge hockey player and competed for Canada in the 2002 and 2006 Paralympic Winter Games.
About Chandra Crawford:
After surprising the world and taking gold in the women's 1.1 km sprint at the Turin Olympics, Chandra set the standard for spirit. CBC commentator Brian Williams said of her "if you're ever standing on top of the podium, this is how you sing our national anthem."
COLD-FX and Sports.
Colds and flu are a big concern for competitors, trainers and coaches, as well as Games organizers. Some sports medical experts say the common cold is an ailment that impacts performance among athletes more than all other illnesses combined. COLD-FX, a unique extract from the ginseng root, is marketed as a daily defence against colds and flu by Edmonton-based CV Technologies Inc. It has been approved by Health Canada to help reduce the frequency, severity and duration of cold and flu symptoms by boosting the immune system.
As part of CV Technologies' commitment to the highest standards of quality, COLD-FX is undergoing stringent review through the NSF Athletic Banned Substances Certification Program - the only certification program recognized by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) to minimize the risk to athletes of testing positive for banned substances.
"CV Technologies has done praiseworthy and unique research in the field of cold and flu medicines, and the result is a Health Canada-approved, leading natural product with excellent quality standards," said VANOC chief medical officer, Dr. Jack Taunton. "It's of the utmost importance that our workforce team stays at the top of our game in what will be an exciting and demanding 11 months as we prepare to host the world, and COLD-FX will help us do that."
