DETROIT, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The State of Michigan Court of Appeals affirmed the July 2004 decision by the Ingham County Circuit Court in favor of St. John Health. The appellate court upheld the original decision dismissing the plaintiffs’ claims on the ground that plaintiffs lack standing.
St. John Health continues to move forward with planning and construction of a 200-bed hospital at their current Providence Park Novi facility, bringing much needed inpatient capabilities to the western Oakland County area. The new hospital facility, located on Grand River Avenue in Novi, received licensure in December 2004 and currently includes six private inpatient beds. Eventually, the hospital will expand to a total of 200 private inpatient rooms.
“This ruling is a victory for our patients, because it reaffirms our position that there is a definite need for access to inpatient medical care in the rapidly growing western suburbs,” said Robert Hoban, Senior Vice President of St. John Health. “This ruling was decisive and confirms our efforts to build a new hospital in Novi.”
Currently, Providence Park Hospital in Novi is a multi-faceted campus offering a comprehensive array of outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic services, 24-hour emergency care center, a cancer center and more than 35 physician offices.
Major construction of the $224 million hospital facility will begin in the summer of 2005. Construction plans include an expanded emergency department and state-of-the art imaging technology, inpatient and outpatient pediatric services, a dedicated pediatric unit and pediatric short stay unit, a Neuroscience Institute, a Musculoskeletal Center of Excellence, as well as a dedicated and consolidated Women’s Services area.
In addition to the hospital itself, the existing campus is being developed with additional outside investments of approximately $100 million from area developers, business leaders and physicians. These additional investments will bring a large Fitness and Wellness Center, hotel services, and a new medical office building to the Novi campus.
“For many years we have worked to receive approval to provide inpatient care to western Oakland County,” said Robert Casalou, president, Providence Hospital and Medical Centers. “Today I am thrilled for our patients, and the quality of inpatient care that they will receive at our new hospital.”
