Consejo Thanks So. Fl. Hospital Association For Admitting That Hospital Lawsuits Against The Uninsured Are “Frivolous”

MIAMI, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- K.B. Forbes, Executive Director of the Consejo de Latinos Unidos, a national non-profit organization which educates and assists Hispanics, released the following statement reacting to a statement issued by Linda S. Quick, president of the South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association:

“We thank the association for finally acknowledging that the thousands of lawsuits hospitals file against the uninsured each year are ‘frivolous.’ Just this week, we announced our legal aid program to defend uninsured patients who have been sued by these ruthless and merciless hospitals. We are pleased that Ms. Quick has accepted the fact that her members clog up the legal system. Hospitals not only clog up the legal system by filing lawsuits against the uninsured, but by forcing many middle income Americans to file for bankruptcy each year because of outrageously high hospitals bills. Hospitals typically charge the uninsured four or five times more than what they would accept as payment in full from an insurance company. These deplorable practices must come to an end.”
