Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute Joins Global Organizations in Observing World Standards Week 2009

WAYNE, PA--(Marketwire - October 02, 2009) -

Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) is happy to be a part of the worldwide celebration of World Standards Week, October 5-8, 2009. The goal of World Standards Week is to raise awareness of the importance of global standardization to the world economy; promote its role in helping meet the needs of business, industry, government, and consumers worldwide; and pay tribute to the thousands of volunteers around the world who participate in standardization activities.

Glen Fine, MS, MBA, CLSI Executive Vice President, says, “CLSI is committed to improving health care through the creation of consensus standards for diagnostic testing. CLSI joins the global standardization community during World Standards Week in highlighting the critical role of standards throughout the world.”

World Standards Day began as a celebration of the creation of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the global clearinghouse for all standardization activities, and has evolved into a worldwide opportunity to share and reaffirm the commitment to standardization.

“CLSI is proud of its role for the past 13 years serving as secretariat for ISO Technical Committee 212, Clinical laboratory testing and in vitro diagnostic test systems and its working groups on behalf of American National Standards Institute (ANSI),” states Fine. He adds, “We are grateful for the efforts of our members, volunteers, and staff who work every day to advance our mission to improve the quality of laboratories worldwide.”

CLSI develops standards and guidelines in clinical and laboratory testing and promotes their use throughout the world to improve the quality of medical care. Advancing this central mission -- improving the quality of patient care -- is the driving force behind the production of every publication and every form of global outreach.

Through its proven consensus process, CLSI volunteers in industry, health care professions, and government develop high-quality clinical standards and guidelines that affect the lives of patients every day. The most important outcome of laboratory standardization is improved public health.

CLSI is a volunteer-driven, membership-supported, nonprofit organization dedicated to developing standards and guidelines for the health care and medical testing community through a consensus process that balances the perspectives of industry, government, and the health care professions.
