Cancer “Switches Off Some DNA”

AUSTRALIAN researchers have formulated a new theory on how cancer cells deactivate cancer-fighting genes, a theory which could have far-reaching implications for new therapies. It was previously believed individual genes preventing tumour growth were turned off in cancerous tissue. But researchers at Sydney’s Garvan Institute have teamed with Spanish scientists to find large regions of DNA are switched off in colon cancer.
