WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- CAD Sciences, known for its advanced CAD technology for MRI of the breast, prostate and other organs, announces the establishment of a core base of reference centers, research collaborators and key customer sites in Europe to serve as the platform for continued expansion into that important market. The creation of such relationships are a key initial benchmark in the development of that market and will accelerate the placement of the Company's fTP CAD system, launched in August of 2005, with European radiologists to complement a growing base of installations in the U.S.

The Company has demonstrated its strong commitment to this market by the placement of applications personnel on the ground to support key selling relationships developed by the Company which include VEDISYS of Griesheim, Germany, a highly-recognized distributor of high-end radiology information systems. Jan Pollard, Managing Director of VEDISYS states, "CAD Sciences' products provide an innovative extension of VEDISYS' product line and demonstrate our commitment to provide customers with high-value solutions in radiology." CAD Sciences received CE Mark approval in August 2005 to market its products throughout the European Union.
Andreas Muehler, President of CAD Sciences, explaining the importance of the European market states, "When compared to their counterparts in the U.S., European radiologists were early adopters of breast and prostate MRI, and consequently, many opinion leaders in those specialties reside in Europe. We believe a strong presence in Europe is central to the development of CAD Sciences' fTP technology as a standard tool for analysis of contrast-enhanced MRI images of cancer by radiologists around the world." Ray Joslin, Chairman and CEO of CAD Sciences adds, "The trend of early and rapid adoption by the European radiologist is reflected in the data: in 2003, the number of breast MRI exams done in Germany alone was higher than in the U.S."
In order to properly support its European activities, CAD Sciences developed multiple beta testing sites and research collaborations in Europe throughout 2005 with prestigious academic centers including the University Clinic in Cologne (Germany), the University Clinic in Essen (Germany) and the University Clinic (AKH) in Vienna (Austria). Dr. Thomas Helbich, Associate Professor of Radiology at the University Clinic Vienna explains, "We are extremely proud that the prostate application was developed to a large extent here at our institution and in my group. It is a great example of a fruitful collaboration between clinicians and industry." Dr. Elke Hauth from the University Clinic of Essen added, "CAD Sciences' product has allowed me to standardize the process and criteria for evaluating breast MRI. The learning curve for new radiologists reading breast MRI has considerably shortened." Dr. Axel Gossmann from the University Clinics in Cologne continued, "The CAD Sciences' fTP algorithm allows the radiologist to calculate numerical values for physiologic parameters, such as vascular permeability and extra-cellular space, from contrast-enhanced images. Such parameters may prove especially useful in monitoring the success of cancer therapy at a time when size measurements are not yet indicative of tumor response."
Recently, Favoriten radiology practice in Vienna (Austria) purchased both breast and prostate CAD Sciences products. Prof. Dr. Karl Turetschek stated, "The breast and prostate products of CAD Sciences will be an important tool for us to establish our clinic as one of the premium centers for breast and prostate MRI in the greater Vienna area. The reporting tools provided in CAD Sciences WorkSpace image viewer allow me to facilitate sending key images to colleagues, which has been very important to fostering strong relationships with referring physicians. We are delighted to be an early adopter of this promising technology."
