EDMONTON, May 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Biomira Inc. today announced that Mr. Edward A. Taylor has been named interim President and CEO of Biomira, replacing Dr. Alex McPherson, who stepped down as President and CEO effective May 17 2006. As a result of his appointment as interim President and CEO, Mr. Taylor was also appointed to the Biomira Board effective May 17, 2006.
Mr. Taylor is also Biomira’s Vice President Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer. He is a member of the Certified General Accountant’s Association of Alberta and British Columbia. Prior to joining Biomira in May 1995, Mr. Taylor’s early career was in the Forest Products industry where he held several senior executive positions, including Corporate Comptroller for Crestbrook Forest Industries (1977 to 1989) and Vice President, Administration for Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries (1989 to 1995). In this role he was one of the key players in the successful development and start up of a $1.3 billion Greenfield pulp mill/forestry complex. He is a past Chairman of the British Columbia Institute of Technology and a graduate of the Stanford Executive Program. Further, Mr. Taylor serves as Corporate Secretary for the Biomira Board of Directors. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors for a public Canadian biotechnology company and a Director of a private Canadian biotechnology company.
