United American Healthcare Corporation Subsidiary Applies For HMO License In The State Of Georgia

DETROIT, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United American Healthcare Corporation , a pioneer in health care services for Medicaid recipients, announced today that its recently formed Georgia subsidiary has applied for a license to do business as a health maintenance organization (“HMO”) in the State of Georgia. It is anticipated that at some future time, the Georgia Department of Community Health may assign members of Georgia’s Medicaid population to HMOs that it will select, pursuant to a Request for Proposals process to be conducted by the Department. Georgia’s Medicaid population includes more than 1.3 million members. The cost of the State’s Medicaid program has been growing at 10-12% per year since 2002, and is expected to exceed $5 billion this year.

United American Healthcare Corporation’s new wholly owned subsidiary, Omni Health Care Plan of Georgia, Inc., applied to the State of Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commission for the HMO license.

“As we have stated over the past year, we continue to explore several expansion opportunities for United American Healthcare,” commented William C. Brooks, President, CEO and Chairman of United American Healthcare. “We believe Georgia’s Medicaid market represents an ideal opportunity for UAHC. The demographics of Georgia’s Medicaid population are similar to that of the State of Tennessee, where we have successfully and profitably delivered health care services to over 130,000 Medicaid members. We believe the similarities between the Georgia and Tennessee Medicaid populations will complement our existing business model and allow us to deliver quality managed health care to Georgia’s Medicaid population in a profitable manner.”
