BLUE BELL, Pa., Oct. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- TOXYScreen, a patented, non-invasive and cost effective oral fluid test for heavy metals such as lead, announced that it is now available to healthcare providers, communities and families.
TOXYScreen test kits use a simple oral swab to collect ultra-filtrated blood plasma from oral fluid to test for exposure to Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), and Arsenic (As). There are an estimated 500,000 American children with high levels of lead exposure. Many of them go unidentified or untreated because the standard test requiring a venous blood specimen for testing is painful for children; consequently, parents shy away from having the test administered.
Lead exposure has been shown to cause developmental delays, irritability, vomiting and loss of hearing, as well as a variety of other ailments.

How it works
Each TOXYScreen kit includes a specially designed oral swab that is laterally swiped between gum and lower lip in order to collect ultra-filtrated blood plasma for testing. The swab is then sealed in the provided packaging, labeled and shipped to a testing lab. Results are returned to the patient or physician’s office in approximately seven days. Patients identified as needing further testing will be directed to their healthcare provider.
