MILWAUKEE, Wis., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Stuart Campbell has been named president of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wisconsin and Missouri, effective April 1. Currently he is senior vice president for strategic planning and management process for the plans’ parent company, WellPoint, Inc. of Indianapolis, Indiana.
In Wisconsin, Campbell replaces Rebecca Kapustay, who is retiring as president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wisconsin. In Missouri, he replaces Angela Braly, who has been promoted to executive vice president, general counsel and chief public affairs officer for WellPoint, Inc.
In his new position, Campbell will oversee product and service innovation, underwriting and sales for the Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in Wisconsin and Missouri. The Wisconsin operations will continue to be headquartered in Milwaukee and will become part of WellPoint’s Central Region, which also includes Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and Ohio. Campbell will report to Keith Faller, Central Region president and CEO.
“As a company, we believe health care is local, and it is important to maintain leadership and decision making at the plan level, close to customers,” said Campbell. “Our members in Wisconsin will continue to be served by people right here in the state. At the same time, joining WellPoint’s Central Region will allow us to maximize the benefit of the recent merger of Anthem, Inc. and WellPoint Health Networks Inc. for our Wisconsin members.”
“WellPoint is fortunate to have someone of the caliber of Stuart Campbell to assume this important leadership position in our company,” said Larry Glasscock, WellPoint president and CEO. “Based on the strong contributions he has already made, I am confident that Stuart will play a key role in maintaining strong growth and continuing to improve service to our customers.”
Prior to his current position, in which he serves as chief of staff for Larry Glasscock and leads WellPoint’s strategic planning, Campbell was senior vice president and chief of staff at WellPoint Health Networks Inc. for chairman and CEO Leonard Schaeffer. He was named president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri in 2002 following the acquisition of its parent company, RightCHOICE Managed Care, Inc., by WellPoint Health Networks. At RightCHOICE, Campbell served in a number of positions of increasing responsibility, including chief financial officer. Prior to that, he was a senior manager at Price Waterhouse. He is a Certified Public Accountant and received his MBA from Washington University.
