Somnia Pain Management Medical Director Named New York’s Best Doctor

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- New York Magazine and Castle Connolly Medical Group released its 2005 list of Best Doctors in New York. Among the physicians named was Dr. Clifford Gevirtz, medical director of Somnia’s Pain Management Division and the Addiction Recovery Institute. This is the fifth consecutive year that Dr. Gevirtz has received the nomination. “Inclusion in this group is an acknowledgement of the high quality of Dr. Gevirtz’s practice and the esteem in which his fellow physicians hold him,” said Marc E. Gevirtz specializes in the treatment of acute and chronic pain, and was the first physician in the United States to perform rapid opiate detoxification. He has published numerous articles and textbook chapters on anesthesia-assisted detoxification methods. In addition to lecturing to national medical audiences on effective pain management, he serves on the editorial board of Anesthesiology News and the American Cancer Society’s Westchester County Pain Management Steering Committee. Dr. Gevirtz is board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, and is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Before joining Somnia, Dr. Gevirtz served as Chief of Anesthesiology at the Bronx VA Medical Center and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Mt. Sinai Hospital and School of Medicine. His distinguished career has included clinical and teaching positions at New York Medical College, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York University and Bellevue Hospital. He received his medical degree from Tulane University and completed his anesthesia residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and anesthesia fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, the renowned teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School.
