SEIU United Healthcare Workers - West Release: Picketers March In Front Of Sutter-Owned Cathedral Hill Hotel

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Union leaders announced at a well-attended march today, that they have added Sutter-owned Cathedral Hill Hotel to the national UNITE-HERE boycott list. This means that any union and businesses or organizations that support labor, will be discouraged from doing business with the hotel, until such time that the current Sutter CPC strike is resolved. Likewise, union and union affiliated entities that have already booked their rooms, meetings and/or events at the Cathedral Hill Hotel, may end up canceling their bookings and hold their event at another facility.

San Francisco Supervisor Chris Daley, who represents the sixth district, where the Cathedral Hill Hotel is located, stated, "It's my honor to have you (CPMC Sutter strikers) in my district today, because you do the right thing -- you put patients first." He added, "I don't want a healthcare provider in my district that doesn't care about people. So Sutter, you better put patients first if want to put your new project on Cathedral Hill!"

Tim Paulson, Executive Director of the San Francisco Labor Council, AFL-CIO, stated, "On behalf of the San Francisco Labor Council and our 150 member unions, we all have agreed to stand with you in solidarity, and we'll be with you until the contract is signed. Sutter, Just Say Yes!"

"This strike means a lot to those of us who are also involved in the struggle for quality healthcare," stated Mike Casey, President of UNITE HERE Local 2. "Today, we're here to announce a boycott of the Cathedral Hill Hotel. Sutter is continuing to promote policies that are completely out of step with other healthcare systems. They should sign a contract now, or they should get out of San Francisco!" he added.

Sutter CPMC caregivers are currently in their seventh day of a strike that began one week ago today after a Federal Mediator offered a compromise settlement proposal that CPMC accepted, then rejected. The caregivers struck when CPMC reneged on its offer to accept the settlement.
