RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Noverant has donated a perpetual license for its Compliance Framework(TM) software to the Biomanufacturing and Pharmaceutical Training Consortium (BPTC). The gift was announced Thursday, October 7, at an Equipment Conference for BPTC held by the North Carolina Bioscience Organization (NCBIO) and a group of member biomanufacturing companies.
The Consortium is an innovative training project connecting the UNC system and the NC Community College System to provide skills training and degrees for students and incumbent workers. The components of the project are the North Carolina Community College System BioNetwork, the Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center at North Carolina State University and the Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Training Enterprise at North Carolina Central University. The BPTC training project received $60 million in initial funding from the Golden Leaf Foundation last year. The state of North Carolina is also providing operating funds for the initiative.
“We are excited to be involved in the BPTC initiative,” said Kimo Kong, the President and CEO of Noverant. “The Compliance Framework will allow the member institutions of the BPTC to educate students on biomanufacturing and biotechnology using the latest technology.” Noverant’s Compliance Framework is a suite of software products that automates compliance with regulatory requirements mandated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The members of the BPTC will utilize the Compliance Framework to develop a curriculum focused on biomanufacturing and biotechnology that is closely aligned with the requirements of the biotechnology industry.
Governor Mike Easley praised the grant. “The biotechnology industry is a rapidly growing industry that is vital to the future of our state. The BPTC is an essential part of our effort to attract biomanufacturing companies to North Carolina and to assure that our citizens have access to the clean, high-paying jobs at these companies. I am pleased that North Carolina based companies like Noverant are willing to provide the technology that is necessary to prepare students for positions in the biotechnology industry.”
More than 100 state, education, industry and equipment representatives turned out for the conference, at which the BPTC institutions previewed the equipment needs of the facilities.
“NCBIO has organized this conference so that vendors who provide equipment and supplies to the biomanufacturing industry can understand the scope and importance of the BPTC initiative,” said Sam Taylor, Executive Vice President of NCBIO. “We hope that suppliers will want to be a part of this effort because of the large number of BPTC students that will learn about the equipment and other products needed biotechnology companies.”
NCBIO members supporting the equipment conference include Bayer, Biogen Idec, Diosynth, Novo Nordisk, Novozymes and Wyeth Vaccines.
