WASHINGTON, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Committee for Quality Health Care (NCQHC) announced today that Janet Corrigan, Ph.D. will join the organization as President and CEO effective June 1, 2005. Corrigan, currently Senior Board Director at the Institute of Medicine, will replace Catherine McDermott, who led the organization since 1997 and who announced her decision to retire earlier this year.
In Corrigan’s role at the Institute of Medicine, she manages the Health Care Services Board, whose project portfolio includes work on health care quality, safety, access, benefits coverage, and financing. Corrigan also directed the Quality of Care in America Project, which produced the landmark reports, “To Err is Human” and “Crossing the Quality Chasm.” She provided strategic direction and oversight of the Institute of Medicine’s Quality Chasm Series, which during her tenure, sponsored two national summits and produced a series of ten reports on safety and quality.
Prior to joining the Institute of Medicine, Corrigan served as Executive Director of the President’s Advisory Commission on Consumer Projection and Quality in the Health Care Industry, which produced its final report “Quality First: Better Health Care for All Americans” in March 1998. Corrigan also has served as a Principal Researcher for the Center for Studying Health System Change and was a founding staff member of the National Committee for Quality Assurance, where she spearheaded the organization’s planning and development division.
