Mercy Hospital - Chicago’s First Hospital - Delivers Christmas Spirit To The Community

CHICAGO, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, December 11th, at 8:00 a.m., more than 1000 Christmas boxes containing food and gifts will be distributed by employees and friends of Mercy Hospital & Medical Center to older adults in the surrounding communities.

For the past twenty-nine years, Mercy volunteers have braved the cold and snow of the winter season to distribute hundreds of boxes to the homes of the elderly and underprivileged of their communities. Since 1974, when 15 boxes were delivered, the program has steadily grown thanks to the efforts of Mercy employees, their families and other volunteers. In the past few years, students from Mother McAuley high school and parishioners from St. James Church in Arlington Heights have also helped prepare the baskets. In fact, Sr. June Anselme, coordinator of the Christmas box delivery, views the program as a partnership between all who are involved and Mercy. “Each year, hundreds of empty boxes are delivered to and filled by St. James Church and Mother McCauley High School alone. You could not meet a more generous group of people,” says Sr. June.

We invite all media to join us as we capture the true meaning of the holidays and live the mission of Mercy Hospital.
