“We’re pleased that the Department of Health agrees that a new hospital serving the Northwest Metro Area is needed,” said Dick Pettingill, president and CEO, Allina Hospitals & Clinics. “Our analysis also found a need, and residents overwhelmingly support a new hospital.”
According to a public opinion survey of area residents, by a margin of 82 percent to 13 percent, residents believe that a new hospital will be needed, with 93 percent believing it will be needed within five years.
Park Nicollet Health System, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota and Allina Hospitals & Clinics have come together as the Maple Grove Tri-Care Partnership to build a new hospital in Maple Grove to serve the Northwest Metro Area. The proposal includes a full hospital, located off of I-94 on Dunkirk Lane and 97th Ave. N., by 2008.
The MDH report noted the community’s interest in obstetric, mental health and emergency services. President and CEO of Children’s, Alan Goldbloom, M.D., said the Tri-Care Partnership is prepared to deliver on each of these points.
“The partners understand the community’s needs and residents know us,” he said. “We will bring access to the most physicians and specialists -- especially pediatric specialists -- in the Twin Cities to this community.”
Now that the Department of Health has determined that a need for a new hospital exists, the Legislature will now likely consider lifting Minnesota’s moratorium on new hospital beds and outline a process for choosing among the three proposals to build a new hospital in Maple Grove.
“As the Department of Health report illustrates, the decision to build a new hospital in Maple Grove is a very important one -- for the Northwest Metro Area, for the broader region and for the state,” said Pettingill. “We look forward to working with residents and policy makers to build a new hospital that meets their needs.”
