Ion Health Enrolls More Than 5,500 Members, Quadruples Provider Panels, Exceeding Strategic Goals In Less Than Seven Months

ERIE, Pa., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Ion Holdings, Inc. today announced that Ion Health, Pennsylvania’s newest and most dynamic managed healthcare plan, has enrolled more than 5,500 Medicaid-eligible residents in three counties, achieving a key goal less than seven months after beginning operations in the state.

Ion Health entered the Pennsylvania Medicaid market in early April in Erie County, with the goal of accepting 3,000 applications within its first six months. That goal was easily surpassed within the first two months; since then, Ion Health has expanded into Blair and Cambria counties, and quadrupled the number of healthcare providers on its panel, including both medical doctors as well as specialists in areas such as vision and dental services. Ion Holdings also disclosed that its application for Ion Health to begin serving the Medicaid-eligible population in Somerset County has received approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

“We are gratified by the rapid acceptance Ion Health has received throughout the counties we serve,” said Mike Nelson, Ion Holdings’ President. “We entered the market with aggressive goals; by achieving key objectives in less time than we projected, we have proven that we are filling a need that benefits multiple segments of our community, from our members whose health is of paramount concern, to county taxpayers who gain from a more efficient way of administering a plan that saves significant revenues over the traditional fee-for-service method of providing health care to Medicaid recipients.”

In addition to the 5,500 Ion Health members who are currently receiving healthcare benefits, more than 6,500 other people across Erie, Blair and Cambria counties have submitted applications to become Ion Health members, and receive healthcare benefits such as doctor appointments, prescriptions, dental and vision care at no cost to them. Nelson noted that a number of those applicants currently receive their healthcare through other Medicaid plans. “We believe this confirms our focus on providing a superior level of service,” he said.

Enrollment of additional members continues at county assistance offices, as well as sites throughout the communities served by Ion Health. More information is available at 1.888.ION.4YOU (1.888.466.4968).
