HealthAmerica And HealthAssurance Fund Cancer Survivor Conference

HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthAmerica and HealthAssurance are honored to serve as presenting sponsors of the "Pathways to Healing" Cancer Survivor Conference at Harrisburg Area Community College on Sept 29, 2004. The conference is organized by the Capital Region Unit of the American Cancer Society (ACS) as an opportunity for anyone touched by cancer -- including medical professionals, cancer patients, and caregivers -- to meet and gain insight on this disease. Attendees learn about the latest advances in oncology, treatment decision tools, news updates, and support resources.

Francis S. Soistman, Jr., HealthAmerica President and CEO, said HealthAmerica chose to support this symposium because of the exceptional quality of the resources and information being presented. "The American Cancer Society often serves as a resource for HealthAmerica's Complex Case Management nurses. These nurses serve as patient advocates, assisting our members who are oncology patients in continually improving their quality of life. Funding the Cancer Survivor Conference is an opportunity to demonstrate our gratitude for the services the American Cancer Society provides," Soistman states.

The conference offers a wide variety of panel discussions and workshops, so that attendees can choose the topic that is of most value to them. Some subjects include "Symptoms that Elude Us" and "Depression: Understanding and Coping." These sessions will equip attendees with new tools to complement and support their recovery and healing.

Soistman will be a featured speaker at the conference. The keynote speaker is Scott Burton, author of Life in the Balance and cancer survivor.
