Irving, Texas – April 8, 2014 - GWM Products, LLC, manufacturer of the RTD® moisture retentive antimicrobial wound care foam dressing, has signed new contracts to make the RTD® Dressing more widely available through major distribution channels that provide products and services to long-term care facilities including home health agencies, skilled nursing, assisted living and rehabilitation centers.

The more difficult it is for chronic wounds to heal, the greater the potential burden to patients, their families, and the healthcare system. The prevalence of chronic wounds increases with age and compounding medical conditions, and treating wounds is most challenging when they become chronic. An estimated 6 million patients in the U.S. have chronic wounds, representing an annual $20 billion burden on the healthcare system.

“GWM Products looks forward to partnering with these agencies to make this revolutionary product available to its members and their patients. RTD® wound dressing can close wounds and alleviate the pain and suffering of the patients, and is a convenient choice for long-term care providers due to its ease of use and effectiveness in closing wounds,” said Al Henry, CEO of GWM Products, LLC

RTD® is a patented multi-action advanced wound dressing that is effective for all stages of healing. RTD® begins with a proprietary moisture retentive foam base with the added active ingredients of gentian violet, methylene blue and a silver compound. The RTD® antibacterial, antifungal and analgesic foam dressing offers a cost-effective wound healing solution to clinicians.

It is effective in regulating wound bed moisture, improving healing without maceration, and decreasing pain following application. It absorbs at least 20 times its weight and is twice as absorbent as other dye-based dressings on the market. RTD® draws exudate away from the wound bed through the capillary action of the foam and the electrostatic antimicrobial mechanisms of the active ingredients. The strong tensile strength of the foam allows for easy removal of the dressing without residual fibers being left behind in most cases.

Dr. Jean Achterberg, president of GWM, added that the company’s goal is to focus on senior care needs. “We understand the challenges that long-term care clinicians face with healing wounds and preventing wounds from becoming chronic,” she said. “The RTD® provides two important aspects of wound healing; a comprehensive barrier to bacterial penetration and superior exudate management in one easy to apply advanced wound dressing.”
