Environmental Tectonics Corporation Awarded Contract To Supply Hyperbaric Chamber To Wound Care Center

SOUTHAMPTON, Pa., May 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Environmental Tectonics Corporation today announced that it has been awarded a contract by a second Philadelphia-area hospital to supply one BARA-MED(R) monoplace hyperbaric chamber. Hyperbaric medicine will be included at the outset in a new wound care program. It will also be available for other non-critical care cases, as appropriate. In obtaining this contract, ETC again worked closely with the hospital and their architectural and engineering consultants to help ensure that the hyperbaric chamber installation met requirements for operational efficiency, patient comfort, and the latest safety standards for healthcare facilities.

Like all BARA-MED(R) monoplace chambers, the unit to be delivered features a standard, PC-based automatic control system that now incorporates ETC’s patient-friendly Smooth-Ride(TM) compression protocol. Practical experience over the last year with this compression protocol has reconfirmed US Air Force research. It dramatically reduces discomfort and complications due to middle ear squeeze during chamber pressurization.

Russell E. Peterson, Ph.D., Director of ETC’s BioMedical Systems Group, stated, “This proves once again that customers appreciate working with a manufacturer that will support them through the installation planning process. It takes a burden off their shoulders, one with which not many facilities have experience.”

Currently, both in the United States and overseas, only a small percentage of hospitals offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The number of chambers is increasing, however, as the benefits of hyperbaric medicine become more widely recognized by mainstream medicine. As this development occurs, ETC’s BioMedical Systems Group strives to keep its equipment and customers at the forefront of hyperbaric medicine. As a consequence, in addition to their regular use in clinical treatments at medical facilities around the world, ETC hyperbaric chambers are routinely involved in research on new indications for which HBO holds promise.

ETC designs, develops, installs and maintains aircrew training systems, public entertainment systems, process simulation systems (sterilization and environmental), clinical hyperbaric systems, environmental testing and simulation systems, and related products for domestic and international customers.
