At Lenox Hill Hospital, more than 2,600 users have accessed the Sunrise Clinical Manager system since its initial activation in 2004 for full computerized provider order entry (CPOE) and results reporting for Lab, Radiology and Nutritional Services, with more than 2.2 million orders placed. Hospital officials noted that the close collaboration of physicians, nursing staff and ancillary departments during the design, development and testing process was one of the key success factors for rapid and smooth adoption of CPOE.

“Going from paper to the new clinical information solution has helped me increase my efficiency, which created more time for me to spend with my patients,” stated Sherri Sandel, DO, medical resident at Lenox Hill Hospital. “The real-time rules and alerts and user-friendly order entry system make Sunrise Clinical Manager more easily adaptable.”

“There have been care improvements on many fronts,” said Bradley Flansbaum, DO, MPH, chief of Hospitalist Services, Lenox Hill Hospital. “Sunrise Remote Access Services has allowed attending physicians to continue their involvement in patient care while ‘off-site.’ Also vital to our success, using Sunrise Clinical Manager’s advanced clinical decision support capabilities we have improved patient care delivery with order reminders. This capability has enabled us to make inroads in such areas as venous thromboembolism prevention, which is a growing health concern.”

Lenox Hill Hospital plans to continue to expand its use of Sunrise Clinical Manager to further enhance the ordering process and implement the system’s interdisciplinary clinical documentation capabilities.

“Lenox Hill Hospital is an excellent example of how clinicians work together successfully to quickly adopt Eclipsys advanced clinical solutions,” said R. Andrew Eckert, Eclipsys president and chief executive officer. “With Sunrise Clinical Manager, Lenox Hill Hospital is firmly positioned to improve patient safety with CPOE and achieve true interoperability among departments and processes, resulting in the delivery of more-efficient and effective healthcare.”
