BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Eclipsys Corporation(R) , The Outcomes Company(R), today announced that New York City’s Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) will deploy multiple Eclipsys software products, as well as utilize the company’s professional services and remote hosting capabilities. HSS, rated first in 2004 in the Northeast in orthopedics and rheumatology by U.S. News & World Report, is consistently highly ranked nationally for quality of patient care. Implementing Eclipsys software will enable HSS to advance its high-quality patient care by using the most current medical information and equipment available.

HSS will deploy Eclipsys’ Sunrise(TM) Clinical Manager, Sunrise Medication Management, Knowledge-Based Medication Administration and Knowledge-Based Charting as the foundation of the hospital’s clinical transformation initiative. Sunrise advanced clinical information solutions improve patient care, safety and satisfaction by automating key care-delivery processes throughout the healthcare organization. Unlike paper records, Sunrise provides physicians, nurses and other clinicians with fast, reliable and convenient access to real-time information on their patients -- both from within the hospital and from remote locations such as a physician’s office or home. This enables them to more-effectively monitor a patient’s condition, order tests, view test results, and have a comprehensive view of the patient’s treatment history. The system’s embedded clinical content and evidence-based rules help prevent potential medical errors and help ensure that best-practice medicine is being provided.
The Eclipsys Technology Solutions Center, located in Mountain Lakes, NJ, will remotely host the solutions. HSS has also selected the Eclipsys Consulting Group for performance improvement services to be provided during the software implementation phase. These services will help ensure that HSS achieves process improvement and clinician adoption and a rapid return on investment.
“We have a long and close relationship with NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System, and are proud to welcome Hospital for Special Surgery, a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Network, into the Eclipsys family,” said Paul L. Ruflin, Eclipsys president and CEO. “HSS shares Eclipsys’ forward- thinking vision -- to leverage the power and potential of technology to improve healthcare. Its insights will be invaluable as we continue to expand the evidence-based medical content of our Sunrise solutions.”
HSS President and CEO John R. Reynolds said, “Today, to provide the best and most cost-effective care you must use an evidence-based information system. Eclipsys’ software and services will enable us to improve patient care by putting information into the hands of our team wherever and whenever it’s needed, while instituting best practices across our organization.”
“A recognized leader”
“HSS has used a clinical information system in the past; however, we didn’t use it for computerized physician order entry (CPOE), only for retrieval of results,” said John Cox, HSS chief information officer. “We turned to Eclipsys because it’s a recognized leader in CPOE-based hospital information solutions, as well as a leader in providing proven, embedded clinical content. Eclipsys’ remote hosting services will enable us to improve the management of our day-to-day IT operations and costs.”
