Cleveland Clinic Physicians To Discuss Medical Innovations During Arab Health Conference 2005, Feb. 12-15, in Dubai, U.A.E.

CLEVELAND, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, ranked as one of the best hospitals in the United States of America, will be among the exhibitors at the upcoming Arab Health Conference 2005. Several Cleveland Clinic physicians will make presentations during the four-day event, being held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre.

- Delos M. Cosgrove, M.D., president and CEO of The Cleveland Clinic, will discuss "The Innovation Imperative." His presentation will take place at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 12. Dr. Cosgrove is one of the most accomplished cardiac surgeons, medical innovators and physician administrators in America today. He has performed more than 20,000 surgical procedures and is a world-renowned expert in heart valve repair. He has 18 patents filed for medical and clinical products used in surgical environments. From 1989 to 2004, Dr. Cosgrove served as chairman of The Cleveland Clinic's Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He was appointed president and CEO in October 2004. - James E. Zins, M.D., chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at The Cleveland Clinic, will discuss "Complications in Facial Aesthetic Surgery" and "Complications with Alloplastic Materials in Facial Cosmetic Surgery." His presentations will take place Feb. 13 at 9:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively. Dr. Zins serves on multiple committees of national plastic surgery societies, and he has written numerous book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. Dr. Zins, who joined The Cleveland Clinic in 1983, also serves as an associate professor of surgery at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. - Peter C. Weber, M.D., staff member at the Head and Neck Institute at The Cleveland Clinic, will provide an "Update on Implantable Hearing Devices for Conductive Hearing Loss" at 4:10 p.m. Feb. 13. He also will participate in several other presentations and round-table discussions during Arab Health 2005. Dr. Weber is a leader in implantable hearing devices, skull-base tumor surgery, facial nerve disorders, acoustic neuromas, cholesteatoma surgery and the surgical management of vertigo disorders. He joined The Cleveland Clinic in 2001. - Isador H. Lieberman, M.D., director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Center and director of the Center for Advanced Skills Training at The Cleveland Clinic, will discuss "Disc Arthoplasty, What, Why and How?" and "Laparoscopic Lumbar Spinal Fusion." Dr. Lieberman's presentations will take place at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 12 and at 10 a.m. Feb. 13, respectively. Dr. Lieberman, an orthopaedic and spine surgeon, also has appointments in The Cleveland Clinic's Spine Institute and its departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurological Surgery. Dr. Lieberman is chairman of the Surgical Care Committee and vice chairman of the Operative Coding Committee for the North American Spine Society. He serves on the scientific advisory board of two prominent medical device manufacturers and three start-up spine companies. He has written multiple peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.
