SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Shield of California members with Medicare Supplement Plans will see their rates reduced an average 10 to 15 percent, effective April 1. Members with Medicare Supplement Plan C, Plan D and Plan F coverage will see the most significant price reductions. These plans cover Medicare deductibles, copayments, and coinsurances, coverage for 365 additional days of inpatient care after Medicare benefits end, skilled nursing facility care, foreign travel emergencies, and more.
In addition to rate rollbacks, Blue Shield offers other options for saving money on monthly dues. Medicare Supplement plan members can save $2 per month when they use EasyPay to pay their premium by electronic debit from their bank account. Married couples and domestic partners can lower their monthly rate when they enroll together through Blue Shield’s new 2-Party program. This program enables couples who purchase two identical Medicare Supplement plans to pay less for their coverage than they would if they purchased the plans individually.
Medicare Supplement Plan members can also reduce their drug costs by using Blue Shield’s Prescription Value Plan. This mail service pharmacy helps members save as much as 15 percent of the maximum prescription drug prices allowed for Medicare and MediCal beneficiaries in California.
