ActiveHealth Management Receives U.S. Patent For Its Groundbreaking CareEngine(R) Technology

NEW YORK, Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- ActiveHealth Management announced today that it has received Patent number 6,802,810 from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for key elements of its CareEngine(R) System. The Patent provides a validation of an innovative and unique approach to care management that aggregates data, applies evidence-based rules, and improves clinical and cost outcomes for covered populations.

Inventors of the technology named in the Patent are ActiveHealth Chief Executive Officer Lonny Reisman, MD; Vice President of Information Strategy, Anthony Ciarniello; and Vice Chairman, Business Development, Charles Blanksteen.

The CareEngine System is a proprietary early warning detection platform that finds potential health risks within patient populations so that physicians and members may be alerted to possible treatment alternatives. The Patent covers essential elements of the underlying technology for the ActiveHealth CareEngine System, which is used to power a range of care management and health data analytic services currently covering more than 6 million individuals. The Company’s flagship CareEngine Clinical Decision Support service detects potential medical errors and patient-specific clinical issues that can be positively impacted through targeted interventions and changes in treatment. Once a clinical improvement opportunity is identified, the CareEngine System defines a highly specific intervention that reflects the latest evidence-based standard of treatment for a broad range of clinical conditions. These interventions are communicated to physicians and patients so that costly medical errors and clinical complications can be averted. These services have been shown to significantly improve clinical outcomes and reduce medical costs across a covered population.

“The awarding of this Patent represents another important milestone for ActiveHealth,” said Dr. Reisman. “Over the past several years, we have received a great deal of external validation of our approach by virtue of the steady increase in our customer base and covered membership. The granting of the Patent is further recognition of ActiveHealth leadership in the provision of evidence-based, technology-enabled care management services leveraging the huge amount of clinical data residing within the health care system.

“Receipt of this Patent at this point in our company’s evolution underscores the unique nature of our services and the novelty of our clinical decision support technology.”
