WASHINGTON, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA) announced today that its president, Alan Mertz, has been elected to the eHealth Initiative Leadership Council, the governing body for the eHealth Initiative, and will lead a session at the upcoming Health Information Technology Summit.
The eHealth Initiative (eHI) is an independent, nonprofit-affiliated organization whose mission is to drive improvement in the quality, safety and efficiency of health care through information and information technology. eHI envisions consumers, health care providers and those responsible for public health having ready access to timely, relevant, reliable and secure information and services. An interconnected, electronic health information infrastructure will support better health and health care.
In related health IT news, ACLA will present a concurrent session at the HIT Summit Oct. 20-23, 2004. ACLA’s session is titled, “The Role of Laboratories in Healthcare IT Adoption and Health Information Exchange.”
ACLA President Alan Mertz will moderate the discussion. Presenters include Lee Barnard, National Strategic Director, Customer Connectivity Division, Laboratory Corporation of America, and Rohit Nayak, Vice President for Marketing, Clinical IT Solutions at MedPlus, the health care technology subsidiary of Quest Diagnostics Inc.
