May 11, 2005-- The IPO market in 2005 is not off to a good start. So far, a dozen initial public offerings have been completed, raising anywhere from about $17 million to $90 million, with an average take of about $50 million. Those are low numbers indeed, and compared to last year, 2005 has a distinct downward trend. In the first four months of 2004, a similar number of biotechs went public, but the average take was a much healthier $75 million. And they averaged $75 million even though many companies priced lower than originally proposed.
