Geoff Werth to Lead Expansion of Organization's DC-Based Legislative Initiatives
WASHINGTON, April 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The US Oncology Government Relations and Public Policy department announced today the appointment of Geoff Werth to its newly created Director of Federal Government Relations position. Based in the organization's Washington, D.C. office, Werth will focus on extending US Oncology's reach on Capitol Hill in order to advance public policies designed to improve the delivery of high-quality community-based cancer treatment and cancer research nationwide.
"We are pleased to have Geoff join our government relations team at US Oncology, and we look forward to working with him to expand upon our current programs that are advancing quality cancer care across America," said Dan Cohen, Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Public Policy, US Oncology. "With his unique background as a passionate healthcare advocate, legislative staffer and trained medical technician, we are fortunate to have him on board."
With more than 10 years of experience in the legislative arena, including most recently spending nearly four years as a lobbyist in the Washington, D.C. office of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), Werth is well positioned to bring new leadership to US Oncology's public policy initiatives. Prior to his time with ACS, Werth worked on Capitol Hill for Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee; and in the leadership office of Minority Leader Dick Gephardt (D-MO). He also has experience in the healthcare field and is trained as a medical technologist.
"I look forward to applying my experience in federal legislative and medical affairs toward new opportunities with US Oncology," said Werth. "Advancing cancer care is one of the most pressing challenges our nation faces today, and I am proud to be working with an organization on the forefront of improving treatment and research quality on behalf of millions of patients and their families."
A Kansas native, Werth holds a Bachelors degree from Kansas University and a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Maryland. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Amanda.
