About the Rapsas Family
Ken and Cathy Rapsas reside in Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey. They have four children; Allison, Kenneth, William, and Mary. Mary is 11 years old and has had intractable epilepsy since she was 16 months old. During the past ten years, Mary has been on more than ten different medications and supplements to manage her epilepsy and related health issues. In addition, Mary has also had a VNS (vagus nerve stimulator) surgically implanted to help reduce the frequency and severity of her seizures.
The entire Rapsas family takes an active role in Mary’s life and have attended and participated in various epilepsy-related events and programs to help raise awareness for epilepsy. These include: organizing a team for The Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey Annual Walk for a Brighter Tomorrow, contributing to Project Access (http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/projectaccess), and participating in The Epilepsy Foundation’s Kids Speak Up! program.
About the National Walk for Epilepsy®
The National Walk for Epilepsy is a family oriented, noncompetitive walk in our nation’s capital to raise awareness and funds to continue the fight to stop seizures, find a cure, and overcome the challenges created by epilepsy. The Walk helps to support new and innovative epilepsy research, develop programs to educate first responders, and support advocacy efforts against epilepsy-related discrimination and national healthcare reform.
This year marks the sixth anniversary of The National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington, D.C. Each year, more than 5,000 people participate in The Walk in support of the nearly three million Americans who live with epilepsy every day as well as their friends and loved ones.
