August 20, 2010 -- Bar Harbor, Maine -- Maine government and Jackson Laboratory officials cut the ribbon today on a new, $10 million research building on the Laboratory’s Bar Harbor campus.

Funded in part by a $4.7 million grant from the Maine Technology Asset Fund, the new building will expand the Laboratory’s capacity to conduct research and development, and to partner with Maine companies in commercialization activities.

Catherine Renault, Ph.D., director of the Maine Department of Economics and Community Development’s Office of Innovation, joined Jackson President and CEO Rick Woychik, Ph.D., and Brian F. Wruble, chair of the Laboratory’s Board of Trustees, in cutting the ribbon for the new facility.

In his remarks, Woychik noted that the facility is the seventh new building or major renovation completed on the Laboratory’s Bar Harbor campus in just the past 10 years.

The Jackson Laboratory is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution based in Bar Harbor, Maine, with a facility in Sacramento, Calif. Its mission is to discover the genetic basis for preventing, treating and curing human diseases, and to enable research and education for the global biomedical community.
