January 19, 2005 -- Once again, as has happened so many other times in this short year, the last hour of trading was brutal today. The Centient Biotech 200 did well to hold on to a gain today, moving up just .79 of a point, or .02% at 3363.39, while the broad market tanked. Once again, stem cells provided much of today’s activitiy. AVI BioPharma rose 100% after receiving a stem-cell patent, while other stocks in the complex, StemCells and Aastrom, continued to move higher, though Geron lost a small amount. Immune Response climbed and so did EntreMed, whose drug proved effective against head and neck cancer in animal studies.
