February 23, 2005 Biotech managed a small gain today after yesterday’s significant sell-off, trading sometimes higher and sometimes lower, but ending with a late rally that closed the session on a positive note. The Centient Biotech 200 moved 9.68 points higher, closing at 3265.14, a rise of .30%. Among biotech stocks making large moves, Hemispherx Biopharma was the beneficiary of a late, unexplained price spike, which probably had to do with Asian bird flu, SciClone moved up after announcing Q4 earnings, Connetics gained as its portfolio of dermatology drugs also gains, and Onyx--which is one of our favorite biotechs--moved up on a Morgan Stanley upgrade.
