Terry R. White To Receive Humanitarian Award from the American Red Cross

CLEVELAND, March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Terry R. White’s career in health care spans more than 40 years. As the recently retired CEO of The MetroHealth System, he ensured that Cleveland’s most vulnerable population continued to receive quality health care. Under his watch, MetroHealth maintained its reputation as a major teaching affiliate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, training more than 300 resident physicians each year with a staff of 400 medical faculty. During his ten years at MetroHealth, White spearheaded the health system’s retail strategy, adding community health centers in neighborhood shopping centers which enhanced access to healthcare for all of greater Cleveland’s citizens. For these reasons and countless others, the American Red Cross, Greater Cleveland Chapter will honor him as its Steve D. Bullock Humanitarian Award recipient at the 11th Biennial Red Cross Ball of Cleveland on May 1.

“We are humbled when we consider the impact Terry White has had in promoting the strong community health mission of MetroHealth, including providing hundreds of millions of dollars in charity care,” states Mary-Alice Frank, CEO, Greater Cleveland Chapter. “There is no more fitting person to receive the humanitarian award.”

This year’s Ball, “Together, We Care,” will highlight the collaborative nature of the relationships between the Red Cross, MetroHealth and two other leading Cleveland institutions. The event’s Chairperson is Thomas F. Zenty III, President and CEO of University Hospitals Health System. Honorary Chair is Edward M. Hundert, MD, President, Case Western Reserve University.

Both Mr. White and his wife, Cynthia, have early ties to the American Red Cross. Mr. White was a Red Cross-trained water safety instructor and Mrs. White has worked as a Red Cross nurse.

Prior to his career at MetroHealth, Mr. White was a leader at a number of other health care facilities in the State of Ohio, including University Hospitals and Lutheran Medical Center. A graduate of Ohio University, Mr. White earned a bachelor’s degree in 1962 and an MBA in Health and Hospital Administration from Xavier University. He holds countless professional affiliations. He and Cynthia have two adult children and 3 grandchildren.
