NORCROSS, Ga., June 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Atlanta based SurgiLance, Inc., announced today that beginning June 26, 2006, SurgiLance Safety Lancets will be available to consumers for the first time in a mainstream, retail setting in 1,000 Wal-Mart SuperCenters for OTC purchase. This endeavor continues the company’s push into the home testing, point-of-care safety lancet market for infection control and diabetes.
SurgiLance Safety Lancets are a major improvement compared to the regular lancets currently being offered in the retail setting. Safety lancets are different in that they incorporate the lancing device and the needle into a disposable unit that is used only once. The needle is usually not exposed before or after use thus minimizing the risk of needlestick injury and cross contamination between different people.
Patrick Yi, CEO of SurgiLance commented, “According to the ADA, there are 20 million diabetics and an estimated 40 million pre-diabetic patients in the U.S. alone. SurgiLance is committed to providing those patients with innovative healthcare products which improve their quality of life. Having our product available at all Wal-Mart SuperCenters in the U.S. is a big step towards accomplishing that goal.”
SurgiLance’s Grey 1.8mm safety lancet, catalog number SLN206- which allows an adult finger stick blood flow of 10-20 microliters- will be packaged in boxes of 100 and is Medicare reimbursable. Patients without convenient access to a SuperCenter can simply ask for the product by item number (3801817) at their local Wal-Mart store. Non SuperCenter stores will be able to carry SurgiLance’s products at the request of the individual store.
