San Ramon Regional Medical Center Caregivers Join California’s Largest Health Care Union

SAN RAMON, Calif., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- On Wednesday. July 14, 140 hospital workers at San Ramon Regional Medical Center in San Ramon voted to unite in SEIU 250, the health care workers union. The vote was conducted by the National Labor Relations Board. The employees who voted for the union include certified nurse assistants, transporters, unit secretaries, phlebotomists, cooks, dietary workers, pharmacy technicians, sterile processing technicians, housekeeping staff and others. The new union members have united to have a voice at work and improve the quality of care they are able to offer their patients.

"I believe being a part of SEIU 250 will help us attain job security, and job improvements that will keep our experienced employees around and encourage other talented health care workers to want to join our staff," said Annaliza Wong, a certified nurse assistant at San Ramon Regional Medical Center. ""I really think choosing to join the health care workers' union will be a good thing for hospital workers, management, our community and most importantly, our patients."

The workers plan to begin contract negotiations soon with their employer. The employees will begin bargaining over local issues at their hospital. By voting for the union, they now have a contract covering wages (increases of 16 percent over the next 2.5 years), guaranteed employer paid health insurance and voice in their conditions of work."

Wednesday's election means that the employer is now legally required to recognize the union and begin negotiations.

With over 95,000 members, SEIU 250 is the largest and fastest growing health care union in the Western U.S. We represent every type of health care worker, including nursing, professional, technical, paramedic and service classifications. Our mission is to achieve high quality health care for all.
