SADHART: Increased Mortality in Severely Depressed ACS Patients

The Heart -- Patients who fail to recover from depression after an acute episode of MI or unstable angina have double the mortality rate of those who return to psychological health—even seven years after the initial cardiac event, according to a long-term analysis of the Sertraline Antidepressant Heart Attack Randomized Trial (SADHART), presented here at the American Psychiatric Association (APA) 2009 Annual Meeting [1].
