RIKEN Discovers New Mechanism For Controlling Allergic Reactions

Tokyo, June 23, 2006 (JCN) - Riken recently announced that the Research Center for Allergy and Immunology at Riken Yokohama Institute, in collaboration with Kyoto University, has discovered a mechanism that controls allergic reactions. The two partners have confirmed that a memory T-cell, a type of immune cell, controls the production of interleukin-4 (IL-4), an in vivo protein that plays a role in allergic reactions.
