January 24, 2005 -- If the current deal flow holds, 2005 may turn out to be a banner year for biotech, much as we predicted earlier. Sixteen companies have filed for IPO so far, and one has already gone out. Three follow-on deals have closed, and at least four other companies have proposed to do the same. $1.4 billion has been raised to year-to-date, with close to $400 million each in venture and follow-on financing. Although stock prices are moving lower, money does not seem to be a problem--which bodes well for biotech. We look at where the money is going...
