Medtronic, Inc. Merger Could Cost CEO $25 Million — But He Won’t Pay It

Medtronic Inc., which plans to shift its headquarters abroad by buying Covidien, will pick up $63 million in special taxes on its executives that’s imposed to discourage companies from doing exactly what Medtronic is doing.

The Star Tribune reports on the move by the med-tech company, which has drawn criticism from shareholders and government officials for its plan to shift its headquarters to Ireland, a move that could save the company billions in taxes. Against those billions, $63 million probably doesn’t seem like a whole lot.
