DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., April 19, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Today Larasan Pharmaceutical Corporation (Larasan) announced their all-natural bug patch package has been redesigned due to heightened US public concern over the Zika virus and demand for safe products that protect against biting insects and insect-borne diseases.

The new package design highlights the product’s all-natural and DEET-free ingredients. More importantly, it visualizes the types of biting bugs the BUGPATCH® protects against, including mosquitoes that spread Zika and West Nile viruses. Each BUGPATCH® helps repel biting insects for up to two days and protects the entire body. The front of the package also reinforces safety and the The National Parenting Center’s Seal of Approval.
ZIKA Virus Has No Treatment
It is estimated more than 700 million people worldwide become infected by disease-carrying mosquitoes each year, resulting in more than one million deaths. The World Health Organization (WHO) states, “Of all disease-transmitting insects, the mosquito is the greatest menace.
“WHO claims Zika is an epidemic with “rapid geographic expansion.” No longer contained to Africa, the virus now resides in the Americas. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) counts 17 countries in the Americas with active, local Zika-borne mosquitoes.
The New York Times reported, “Air travel maps show the United States to be a kind of potential viral pincushion; Zika may arrive from anywhere since four out of five victims never show any symptoms. There is no way to spot it at the borders.” *
Zika is active in US territories Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and American Samoa. In addition, 41 US states have reported travel-related cases of the Zika virus. While there are no reports of locally acquired Zika virus, Miami-Dade County mosquito controllers have sighted larvae from the Zika-carrying mosquito --Aedes Aegypti.
The CDC recently announced the virus “seems to be scarier than we initially thought” and have upped the range of the mosquito transmitting the Zika virus to 30 US states.
While the Zika virus was first identified in 1952 in humans in Uganda, there is insufficient knowledge about its current form. Scientists did now know until recently the virus can be sexually transmitted. WHO states, “There is no specific treatment or vaccine currently available (for the Zika virus). The best form of protection is prevention against mosquito bites.”
How The BUGPATCH® Works
The Larasan BUGPATCH® utilizes 100% Vitamin B1 or Thiamin, a vitamin the body uses as a natural defense against biting insects. Vitamin B1 naturally repels biting insects by masking the body’s attractive scent to insects. Most people are deficient in Vitamin B1 because it is water soluble and not stored by the body.
The Larasan BUGPATCH® is patented to consistently release safe amounts of Vitamin B1 to maximize the body’s need for full protection against biting insects. Consistent use of the BUGPATCH® insures consistent protection.
“Anyone who spends time outside construction workers, gardeners, military personnel, athletes, and now especially pregnant women and their families has increased concerns about the Zika virus,” said Sumair Mitroo, CEO of Larasan. “People want reassurance that a product works and is safe to use. Our All-Natural BUGPATCH® provides what people want a very effective insect repellent that is safe, even for children.
Test Results
In an extreme condition, controlled laboratory study by the USDA, where skin was exposed to a swarm of nearly 500 mosquitoes, the Larasan BUGPATCH® provided 87% protection after one patch was used for 24 hours and another patch was applied immediately before the test.
Other Mosquito-Borne Diseases
The CDC claims they are seeing insect-borne diseases crop up in US regions never previously recorded. Chikungunya, a mosquito-borne disease from Africa, is spreading in the Caribbean islands. Malaria, once relegated to the sub-tropics, is now in Florida. Mosquitoes are responsible for six diseases in the US and US territories: Zika, Dengue, Encephalitis, West Nile, Malaria, Meningitis and Chikungunya.
Benefits from the Larasan BUGPATCH®
The BUGPATCH® is all-natural, organic and DEET-free. Thiamin is a recognized vitamin in the body and natural to its immune system. Other natural ingredients, such as citronella oil or geranium oil, are not natural to the body.
Each patch provides up to 48 hours of protection once Vitamin B1 levels are achieved. Based on the individual, initial use will provide 24-48 hours of protection.
Since the transdermal patch releases Vitamin B1 into the bloodstream, which is then circulated throughout the body, the entire body is protected. By contrast, sprays offer spotty protection. The BUGPATCH® is waterproof and sweat proof. It delivers Vitamin B1 through the pores and is not layered on the skin like sprays and creams.
The patch is safe, garnering the Seal of Approval from The National Parenting Center. It can be worn by children as young as 1 year old. Additionally, the patch offers the daily convenience of “apply and go” and is not greasy like creams or sprays.
CEO Sumair Mitroo said, “At last there is an insect repellent that anyone can use, even a child, without concerns it is solving one problem but causing another. How could you not like a product that harnesses the benefits of nature so we can safely protect ourselves?”
Consumer Usage
Less than half of all Americans use insect repellent. Roughly one-third don’t use repellent because they don’t like the smell or greasiness.
Households with children are more likely to use insect repellent for every outdoor occasion. People are more likely to use insect repellent when walking in the woods (63% of the time).
Safety is important: 71% of all buyers check labels, especially for DEET and chemicals in a product.
