The gout culprit uric acid also appears to be an independent factor in high blood pressure among relatively high-risk children and teens, researchers found. Higher uric acid levels correlated with higher systolic and diastolic blood pressure after adjusting for puberty, gender, body mass index (BMI), renal function, and other factors (P=0.03), Simonetta Genovesi, MD, of the University of Milano-Bicocca in Monza, Italy, and colleagues found.
