NASHVILLE, Tenn. – June 3, 2009 – GHX today announced the winners of the sixth annual Best In Class Awards, recognizing 30 medical-surgical manufacturers that have achieved significant market share positions for distributed products through the end of 2008. Awards were given to companies that achieved the highest year-over-year market share growth in 35 different product categories and those that achieved the top share position in five specific markets. The awards were presented on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, during a recognition ceremony in Nashville at the 9th Annual GHX Supply Chain Summit—the largest forum in the U.S. focused on both the buy and sell side of the healthcare supply chain.
Best In Class winners were determined using GHX Market Intelligence reports that analyze national distributed sales transaction data provided by 27 U.S. distributors. While manufacturers are not required to be GHX customers in order to qualify for or win the Best In Class awards, many of this year’s award winners leverage GHX Market Intelligence to gain market share.
“Despite the economic challenges that lowered the overall market growth rate in 2008 compared to recent years, the Best In Class winners outpaced the industry to achieve substantial growth in their respective markets and product categories,” said Ed McCauley, general manager, GHX Business Intelligence. “The success of these companies proves there are still significant opportunities in healthcare regardless of the economic climate.”
The 2009 GHX Best In Class market segment award winners were selected based on the highest sales volumes for 2008.
They are as follows:
“Aberdeen Group joins in congratulating the winners of the GHX 2009 Best In Class Awards,” states David Hatch, group vice president of Technology Research at Aberdeen Group. “Companies such as Covidien, BD and Abbott Laboratories consistently exhibited top year-over-year performance based on the business metrics we measured within our primary research into Life Sciences and Healthcare Supply Chain intelligence.”
